Easy Tips to Calm Morning Chaos

Now that I have three kids in school our mornings have gotten so hectic. Our lives are busier and we are juggling more responsibilities as each kid gets older. One of the biggest challenges in the mornings is packing school lunches. I partnered with Stonyfield® Organic YoKids® yogurt to help encourage the kids to put together their lunches and create less chaos in the morning.

The last few weeks I have found we are running to catch the bus. The kids are not ready and mornings have become crazy. I wanted to find a way to enjoy the mornings more and feel less rushed in the morning. We needed a family meeting. We sat down and brainstormed ways that could make our mornings go a little more smoothly.

We all agreed that having a check-list of what needs to be done in the morning would help everyone feel better about getting their tasks done. We also agreed that having lunches prepared and ready to go would help with the chaos. This week we decided to implement the check-list and these 6 easy tips to calm the morning chaos.

Be Prepared
Make sure folders and backpacks are emptied the night before. Take a look at the calendar and see what activities are planned for tomorrow. Is it a library day? Have the books ready to go. Is it a P.E. day? Make sure sneakers are ready. Go through any papers that need to be signed and returned to school.

Make Lunches the Night Before
Making lunches are probably the biggest issue in the morning for us. We are scrambling to get breakfast and then I am adding making lunches into the mix and it is chaos. As a family we decided it is important to make our lunches the night before.

We work together to get this done by having snacks and lunch choices readily available in our house. I set up a snack area in the refrigerator to make it easy for my kids to have their lunches made. Pick Out Clothes

Check the weather and pick out clothes for the next day. This saves a lot of time in the morning. Make sure everyone is ready for the day and the weather.

Prepare Yourself Too! 

Don’t forget you!! Do you like to wake up to a hot cup of coffee? Set it for the day before. Lay your clothes out and you will feel less stressed while getting ready. Often it helps to wake up 10-15 minutes before the kids. This will give you a few moments to quietly start your day.

Make a Checklist

Create a checklist and hang it somewhere everyone can see. For us it is the fridge. It is centrally located and the easy for the kids to see. If you have younger kids print out pictures to help with the words. I also like to involve the kids and had my son make the poster after we brainstormed all the things needed. Everyone’s list will be different but here is what is on our list.

Ready for Our Day/School

Night Before:

  • Make Lunch
  • Backpack Ready
  • Pick out Clothes

Morning Jobs:

  • Eat Breakfast
  • Brush Teeth/Hair
  • Make Bed
  • Pack Backpacks with snack, lunch, & water bottle.

Connect with Your Kids

All morning can’t be chaos free. Sometimes they get busy but I always want to spend that 1 hour in the morning enjoying their company not rushing them all over. On those mornings that we do have a few minutes sit down with your kids and read a book or color. Go outside and draw with some chalk. The fresh air and quiet time is a great way to start the day.

    All great ideas! I admire people that are this organized. I just can’t manage to get up before I absolutely have to. I used to have a boss lady who would talk about how she’d make her coffee and sit outside on the deck in the mornings before work (no kids) and I was so jealous…. but I’m just not that type. haha I do try to have my lunch in a container ready to go in the fridge, so all I have to do it grab it.
