New Year's Eve Family Activities

New Year’s Eve Family Activities

New Year’s Eve is all about celebrating with my family.  The days of going out are gone for me and I love my new traditions spent making it a special night with my husband and kids. Last year we almost made it to midnight. This year we are going to use this list of New Year’s Eve family activities and try to make it!

New Year's Eve Family Activities

#1 New Year’s Eve Bucket List

Every year we make New Year’s Eve Bucket List.  Instead of the typical resolutions that often are stressful and predictable we come up with a list of things we aspire to do in the new year.  We started doing these when my daughter was about 6 years old and it has become a fun tradition to do as a family.

We start with a blank sheet of paper and write the upcoming year on it.  So this year would be 2017.  From there you can write anything you want.  Here are a list of ideas to get you and your family brainstorming for your own bucket list.

  • Travel Plans- We always add our bucket list of family adventures we want to go on for the year.
  • School Goals- Read more, Pack lunches, etc.
  • Extra Curricular Goals- Sports or Other Hobbies
  • Parenting Goals-Yell Less, Be Present, Enjoy the Moments
  • Health/Wellness Goals- Exercise as a Family, Replace sugary snacks with Healthier Choices.
  • Family Goals-No electronic Time, Game Nights, etc.
  • House goals: Be Helpful, Kindness, Chores, Etc.
New Year's Eve Family Fun
Here is ours from a few years back. I love how my younger kids drew and got creative too. It is fun to look at the years and how they have grown.

 #2 Dance Party

Dress up dance parties are one of my family favorite activities.  We love to dance! Usually we dress up in our favorite dress up clothes and fancy dresses and put on a dance show! I’ve been known to bust out the wedding dress a few times and my kids always have a blast.  They love to get dressed up! We’ve had superhero dance parties and pirate dance parties.  It’s all about having fun!

#3 Power Snacks

If you want to stay up until midnight you need a power snack. We try to do ours around 10:30pm.  My favorite snack has been the fruit kabos. Cut up your fruit earlier in the day and put them on skewers.  Save them in the fridge for a half-way to midnight snack.  This is a healthy yummy snack that the entire family will love. You can also make parfaits or a veggie tray with cheese and crackers.  Make it a fun family activity for earlier in the day that you can enjoy together during your celebration.

#4 Game Night

This is the time to break out the fun games.  Charades or other interactive games that will keep you moving.  We also like card games and clue.  Clue has been a big favorite lately.  It really is for older kids but you can play as teams if you have at least 3 teams.  Apples to Apples is another great one and they have a junior version for the littler ones. If you have a Wii put on some games and get active.  We love Guitar Hero, Mini Golf, and Wii Sports.

#5 Too sleepy to make it to Midnight…

What if you can’t make it until midnight? It is tough for little ones to make it that late…it is tough for me!! My favorite thing to do is watch fireworks on TV.  I will YouTube either a major international city that is a few hours ahead of us or watch last years ball drop.  The kids don’t really care, especially if they are younger than 5.  I’ve celebrated New Years Eve in Australia, London, and Walt Disney World all from the comfort of my couch!!

I hope you have an amazing New Years!  If you don’t make it until midnight enjoy New Years Day with a Happy New Years celebratory breakfast.  The best way to do New Years is to do what works best for your family.

Enjoy it! See you in 2017!!
